First, I’m not an Aldub fanatic. Second, I must confess that I haven’t followed the Kalyeserye. Third, this blog is purely for the purpose of finding motivational insight from an experience that changed the game in Philippine noontime television.
Kalyeserye is a new invention. And just like many other inventions, Eat Bulaga may not have any idea if such approach would work. I’, sure the management simply put its best effort to make sure it would. And it did, taking its rating to the roof and hurting its rival show, It’s Showtime.
When the drama started, nobody expected it to reach this far: getting millions of followers and viewers ready to spend their precious siesta time in exchange of the scripted scenes. It’s like the people are ready to stop their world just to watch the drama as it unfolds.
From my management experience, the longest-running noon time show, Eat Bulaga, managed many expectations and it did well in managing the subsequent outcomes of the experiment. They knew how short is short and how long is long. They knew when to put a stop.
From my marketing point of view, it was an experiment that went right. In marketing, you give people what they want. Great marketers understand their market. They are always in touch with their market. They listen. They feel. They are right where their products are. They are guided by what is real rather than wishful thinking. Aldub has become a brand. It was a simple experiment that simply went right.
From a motivational standpoint, success doesn’t come as a product of wishes. Seldom do wishes come true. Most of the time, they don’t. But to many extents, success is a product of experiment. And in life, experiment is probably one important activity that you can’t live without.
When we were still young, we were introduce to various science experiments. When we get something to work, we are amazed by our own experiments. We were curious and we wanted to try more. Sometimes, for some people, Science subjects needed more time than others. We enjoy experimenting.
But as we grow old, something happened. Our interest in discovering something working, something new, something interesting slowly died down. For what reason? Who knows? But that’s real. We stopped making experiments perhaps for fear that we get it wrong. For one, when we get it wrong, the world will likely persecute us or make fun of our failed experiment.
Aldub is an experiment that simply went right. If you want to be successful in any area of your life, don’t be afraid to make some experiments, amaze your self with the outcome, and be willing to take another experiment should you fail at one attempt. Because simply, success happens only when you do something.
