A few days ago, I spoke to about three hundred people from Zenutna Group of Companies, the most popular brand under it is Total Information Management which was instrumental in automating our elections. Interestingly, my topic was identity, which I would like to give you as today’s take away.
In business and in life, there’s just too many things happening everywhere. With the technology, the media, the people, the competition all around us, it is easy now to get lost and get lost forever. For many people, finding their way back to what was once their place is almost next to impossible.
So why is identity important? Well, if you don’t have an ID, you’d probably be unable to enter your office or process important documents. Remember what you see around, No ID, no entry? That’s powerful. You can’t just enter with an identification.
So that No ID, no entry sign can probably tell us the beauty of having an identity. It can mean, if you don’t have an ID, you can’t get in and therefore whatever opportunity is there inside, you can’t get it. You won’t see what is inside unless you show that little card with your picture, name and signature on it.
But identity in a deeper sense is the very foundation of what we do, which means that whatever we do can only come from our identity. I always ask people this hypothetical question, Can you kill? Of course you can. But I add, Will you kill? Probably you won’t.
Why is that? Because if you’re not a killer, you won’t kill.
Why do teachers teach? Drivers drive? Swimmers swim? Businessmen do business? If you are going to think about it, it is simply because that is what their identity is requiring them to do.
If you don’t know who you are, you are not only lost but unable to do the things you ought to do. That’s the reason why we probably do things that are way irrelevant sometimes. Because we don’t know who we are.
You will do whatever it is that your identity tells you to do. So better be sure about who you are.
