Just a minute before this posting, I was able to read one Facebook status from a friend of mine. She claimed to have learned from a business person who said, “You don’t go out of your comfort zone but rather expand your comfort.”
Whoever this business person is, I hope he wanted to advise that people should “not go out of their strength zone…” Now, there’s a difference between the two. That difference may not be so obvious but it can affect the way we do things.
Let me now share my illustration on this.
Any woman who just gave birth to a child experienced tremendous pain not to mention danger. I’m sure, it’s not comfortable. However, she has to experience it for a greater good. It’s her task.
Giving a life to someone or or making something real knows no comfort. It knows discomfort and pains and strength. That’s why this illustration will tell that expanding your comfort zone is impossible without leaving it.
Comfort zone isn’t necessary our strength zone. We may be comfortable because somebody makes it so or luck was in the way or favor is given to us at the moment. We may feel comfortable but not strong.
I hope that business person who gave the advise of “not leaving your comfort zone” really would like to mean “not to leave your strength zone.”
As an entrepreneur myself, who interviewed many of my mentors and friends in the business community, I can tell you that they’ve been leaving their comfort zone often and quickly once they see something in the horizon.
I think one best case to back my case is the story of discovery. One can’t discover a new shore without leaving the other.
If you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, you will find this to be true when you’re already working on your business. I hope you don’t take advise that’s only good to the ears probably because it seems new. Dig deeper and learn to filter the information given to you. That way, you’re making sure that you have everything under control and not another advisor.
So, my advise is for you to leave your comfort zone because hen you don’t you can’t expand your strength zone.
