This morning, I attended a briefing for GNN Special Elections Coverage Anchors. I was informed about this “break” and I’m really happy about it.
GNN is free cable channel (and will be a free UHF channel very, very soon), a two-year old baby of Philip Chien, President and CEO of Destiny Cable Inc., who also owns GSat (Global Satellite).
What keeps me excited is the idea that I’ll anchor the election process as it happens. It’s the first automated elections and I like the idea of taking part in this piece of history as probably the youngest television anchor to cover it.
GNN has partnered with RMN (with more than 5,000 radio reporters deployed in different precincts) and other media and Internet organizations. Aside from being beamed via satellite, we can also be seen on at least 10 websites.
I will be covering the event from GNN Studio in Makati City from May 10-13 at 6AM-10AM (while some of my colleagues will report from Comelec Headquarters at the PICC, where we also have a live point).
I’d like to commend Philip Chien for supporting his hosts and anchors. He gave a moving (and entertaining) speech this morning, which I recorded, about his vision and his drive for coming up with a channel such as this.
What struck me was his statement about “finding your contribution.” He reminded us that he’s only there to support while we do our best and keep ourselves safe all the time. He wanted to bring the information to the people even if it requires some investments from his part.
Mr. Philip is a visionary guy, I know. He knows exactly how and when to take a leadership role. In this case, the leaders motivates and inspires his followers.
He assured the his GNN team will be there to support our individual goals as their partner. “You can promote your self or your company here,” he said.
So there, I will have to make some research which I can use. I invited Kabayani Gerry Gamez to be my studio guest and he said yes. I’m also talking to some other resource persons to sit with me as I anchor this historic Philippine elections.
