What a wonderful way to start the year with a blog talking about the reason we call the new year, new year! Why don’t we say, “Happy New Birthday?” Why do we drop the “new” in other occasions? But after 365 days, we take the “new” when all we have really is nothing but the same old things?
Have you ever wondered why we call it new where in fact, nothing is substantially new? When our calendar turned, do we now have 25 hours in a day? What about a new family? Are we richer after 12 midnight of the 31st of December? Do we get our promotion when we come back to work? Do we have a new, or even better, set of friends around us? Did somebody pay our bills?
Essentially, there’s nothing new, right? Everything is the same. We only changed some numbers in our calendar. Formerly, it was 2010. Now, it’s 2011. What’s the deal?
Well, personally I think the deal is about opportunity. Nothing more, nothing less. Since nothing is really new, the new year is nothing but an opportunity for us to become a better person if we want to have a better life. That’s because a better life is reserved for better people.
We call it a new year because we are given another 365 days to make little changes in our lives that can make us the person the we dream of. We now have a new set of 12 months, where we can improve ourselves so we can bless more people around. Hopefully, we can help more this time.
This year, 2011, is really a challenging year ever. The technology will develop faster, relationships will crumble faster, money is made and lost faster, debt will get bigger, politicians may be more corrupt than ever, tasks will be overwhelming, education will be more expensive, things will get more complicated than the previous year.
No, I’m not a pessimist. But I’m telling what will happen should we let go of this opportunity to be better, to be new, to be someone greater than yourself one year ago. Whatever we did right in 2010 may no longer work. A different challenge requires a different strategy. A different time requires a different approach. A different game requires a different level of thinking.
Simply put, we can’t be our old self. Something must change. And we call it a new year because we are presented with a brand new calendar to start with.
And so let me pray for you. May God give you everything that you’ll ever need to make this year a passion-driven year. May you finally find your way toward your goals. May you become a better person who deserves nothing less than a better life.
If haven’t discovered your passion yet, search again. Keep searching until you found it. Remember, finding is reserved for those who seek. The only way that you can beat every known road block in your way is to find what’s really in your heart. When you do, you can never go wrong!
Be more passionate this year. Driven by it, you’ll arrive in your chosen destiny in no time. LLOYDLUNA will be here to guide you in every step of the way. With God’s grace, we will make it!
